Galentines Day

Hello my Loves!!

Today is Galentines Day and last night we celebrated with our dear friends, Brogan and Kathy at our store, Lovey's Gifts, Gourmet and Home. In any other circumstances we would have filled the store to the brim with lots of our Gals and Guys noshing on sweet treats and champagne until we were all hopped up on sugar. But like everything else Covid has restricted our social lives from a candy land down to a grain of sugar. So we invited two very special guests to celebrate on a much smaller scale.

"In The Kitchen" usually takes place in my kitchen but we have so many great things to showcase at Lovey’s -- for your love (that may be you, your friends, your lover… we’re not here to judge you) -- we thought this was the perfect time to bring you into the Lovey's brick and mortar store conveniently located just downstairs from my kitchen. For those of you who visit us virtually and have ordered online, you know that we ship anything in the store to anywhere in the US but perhaps have never been able to come our cute little shop in charming downtown Elkhorn in the Geneva Lakes area of Wisconsin. So last night on our In The Kitchen Live on Facebook we brought the store to you! (Watch the video). And speaking of bringing something to someone, our dear friend Katie at KT Blooms Floral Studio just down the block brought us a gorgeous bouquet of flowers. She is so talented with her floral designs and we are so lucky to have her close by. She is available Saturday and Sunday for your Valentines floral and all year round for your other floral needs. Just message or call her at 262-470-1590.

Let's first start with a cocktail of the evening compliments of the Green Grocer in Williams Bay, WI just a few short miles south towards Geneva Lake. Friends of ours own this woman-owned and operated business. These women are always so supportive and generous as we have found many small women-owned businesses here in Southeastern Wisconsin to be. They suggested this very festive cocktail and sponsored a beautiful bottle of New Amsterdam Pink Whitney. Check them out and like their page on Facebook @GreenGrocerWB

As we sip on this delicious drink topped with champagne let’s look at some things in our store that scream LOVE! First, for the kitchen cook or baker we have these darling Love Heart Red Aprons that have a simple, elegant design that will appeal to so many tastes making an attractive statement piece in any kitchen. And check out our super popular Love Bird tea towels printed in small batch using waterproof inks in rural Wisconsin. We LOVE to support local!!!

And for the Valentine, Galentine or Palentine in your life who loves to pamper themselves with lovely scented soaps and lotions we have our Sugar Dahlia Spongelle, Sweet Cedarwood Spongelle and more scents! What's a Spongelle you ask? Check out our video on TikTok @myboutiquecloset. And if you haven't enjoyed one of our Lake Life Candles in OH SO MANY scents this is a must-have, must-give gift for anyone in your life. They are lead and nickel free, made of soy, burn super clean and made in our home state of Wisconsin! And from our just over the border sister state of Illinois we welcome Live Inspired Candles in convenient travel tins for the office, hotel room or home! We love the mission behind the candle and the dear friend who makes them at SO Creative @BeeSoCreative on Facebook and Instagram. And from our sister store The Boutique Closet we are all going home in our Sweet Hearts Fuzzy Loungers to take on the sub zero temperatures on Valentines Day Sunday February 14.

And last but certainly not least our kitchen treat tonight is baked from Sugar Cat Studio. I have been intrigued since I saw Sugar Cat Studio and loved the idea of offering something sweet to bake. These aren’t just cupcakes! You add beer, wine or bubbles to elevate the flavor. We offer two mixes: a Chocolate Stout and a Vanilla Porter. Alison Riede is the creator of this brand and winner of Cupcake Wars on the Food Network. Her story started pairing wine and cupcakes in Santa Barbara tasting rooms, which is where we were one year ago today and have future plans for expansions with our brands... stay tuned for that!

My sister Robin, the owner of The Boutique Closet at 13 N. Wisconsin Street just 2-doors down from Lovey's is made a basic cream cheese frosting. It's a quick mix of butter, powdered sugar vanilla and cream cheese.

Basic Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Brogan and Kathy frosted the cupcakes and decorated with some of the candies from Candy Club. We offer many different kinds and one of our favorites to decorate these with are the Be My Sweetheart candies.

After we prepared our sweet treats at Lovey's we enjoyed some savory treats using a few of our favorite gourmet goodies. Galloping Garlic Horseradish Dip makes a divine base for focaccia, shaved beef and arugula open-faced sandwiches. And Bacon Jam from TBJ Gourmet, Plum Tomato Marinara Pizza Sauce, and Hot Buffalo Dip each make a delish star appearance on Brogan's heart-shaped focaccia pizzas.

We hope this has inspired you to come visit us at our stores in downtown Elkhorn, Wisconsin or peruse our website where you can find all of these curated items and more from other small businesses in the Midwest and beyond for your Galentines and/or Valentines Day!

With love,

~ Amy
